The key to maintaining a healthy weight is… **drumroll**

Eating healthfully and exercising!

Does that make any dieters out there angry or annoyed? I had a hard time accepting it in years past. Every time someone enthusiastically asks me how I did it, I tell them the truth. They almost always respond with disappointment, saying something like, “Why can’t it just be easy?” This time around I have accepted it and embraced healthy eating and exercise with all my heart.

The truth is that being healthy involves a balance. Ever hear them say, “Everything in moderation?”

Many nights I eat pasta. Who says you can’t have it? Other nights I make BBQ burgers with turkey, chicken, or beef. I eat chocolate or ice cream for dessert. In moderation. It’s all about portions.

At home staples – I love Greek yogurt, oatmeal, cinnamon, fruit, chicken, turkey, beef, fish, sharp cheddar cheese, pistachios… I drink at least 64 ounces of water every day, log my food/workouts, walk my 10,000 steps, and do strength training and cardio at least 5 days a week.

Perfection? Heeeeecks no! You’ll often read my post-weekend confessions because I still struggle with going out. I’m discovering that this is how the balance works for me. I may overeat unhealthy foods on weekends, so I naturally compensate by slightly lowering my intake the following few days. It works well and I rarely feel deprived because I usually get to eat the foods I love at some point or another. It works differently for everyone, but that is how I maintain my weight.

It’s only been 6 months but this time it’s going to stick because I have the tools I need that I didn’t have before. I now think and behave differently. Anyone who has any doubts should check out the Beck Diet Solution book and also the workbook. They rock!

A final note – I wish every dieter out there luck with their weight loss endeavors. You can do it and you will reach your goals as long as you stick with it! Believe in yourself, do your homework, and stay motivated!
