My Weight Loss Story In a Nutshell:

  • I’m 5’2″, short and sweet.
  • I grew up obese – 180 pounds by 6th grade; never knew what healthy felt like.
  • Round 1 – Reached 115 pounds by age 16 – Eating smaller portions and exercising on my parents’ treadmill.
  • Gained all the weight back – 175 pounds by 19 years old.
  • Round 2 – Reached 110 pounds by age 20 – Counting nutrition information onFitDay.com and exercising on a stationary bike and Tae Bo with Billy Blanks.
  • Gained all the weight back – 185 pounds by 23 years old.
  • Round 3 – Reached 108.8 pounds by age 25 – Weight Watchers and exercising on an elliptical machine.
  • Gained all the weight back – 168.8 pounds by 28 years old.
  • Round 4 – Reached 108 pounds by April 2012 – Counting nutrition information onMyNetDiary on my iPhone and exercising using a combination of Zumba and strength training DVD’s with Jillian Michaels. Also had a TON of help from The Beck Diet Solution Workbook, which taught me how to lose the weight and how to maintain it for the first time in my life.
  • After over 1 year of successful maintenance, food will always be a struggle and I will always be learning how to balance life with health, probably for the rest of my days. I gotta tell you, though, it’s worth it!

I’m in a downward “yo” currently, trying to prevent reversing directions. I’m finding blogging is helping and the community from that is amazing.

Now that’s inspiration!! I love that you keep on trying every time you gained weight you got back to it and lost it again. I have never been anywhere close to 108 pounds. Sometimes I think that I was born that weight. Thanks for your post and for following!!!

Hey there, I just want to say thanks so much for taking the time to write this blog. I am guessing that it would be quite hard to admit the truth about the struggle of maintaining your weight after losing it. Its nice to hear someone going through the same issues as I have. I also had no notion of being thin as a child. When I was thirteen I developed anorexia and lost all the weight unhealthily.This led to a future of ups and downs in my weight. I sometimes used to feel like Alice in Wonderland, never being the same size for a very long time and it gets tiring. I am embarking on my “round number 3” of weight loss. I am trying very hard to do it as healthily as possible and trying to build up my nutrition and exercise skills as I go along so that I know how to maintain when I reach my goals. It is being the hardest challenge in my life and I am taking it one step at a time. Today I can feel proud of myself, I kept on walking to the kitchen and getting out things to binge eat on but I managed to find the strength to put them back in the cupboard and walk away. Its hard to know how to eat normally if you cannot remember a time in your life when you did. You managed to succeed in losing and maintaining your weight for a year, which is something you should be really proud of. Take that XS tee and wear it with pride, because you deserve it with all the work you have done.

Hopefully 3rd time will be a charm for you. 🙂 It’s a challenge to get the weight off and even more challenging to keep it off, but the one thing I didn’t have before was a plan for after the weight was off.

Thank you for all your wonderful thoughts both here and on my blog. Hoping this time (finally!) I’ll stick with everything and not only lose the weight but keep it off. I think I’ll look into the Beck Diet Solution Workbook when I get a chance (read: tomorrow after I’ve slept!) and see if I can incorporate parts of that into my Weight Watchers as well – I’m one for mixing things in with each other if they can work that way. I’m thrilled for you for maintaining your weight – woot! You are an inspiration, and a lot of that is because you’ve had to fight this fight a few different times!
